| Turkey beat Serbia 69-64 in the overtime of the Group F of the EuroBasket 2009 qualifying round game on Monday night.
Barcelona forward Ersan İlyasova had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds for Turkey. Ömer Aşık added 11 points and six rebounds for the red and white team.
"We battled hard, even if we did not play that well," said guard Sinan Güler.
Efes Pilsen guard Ender Arslan added that the score of the game was understandably low.
"At this stage only an extraordinary team can score 90 points," said Arslan to the NTV television channel. "Scoring around 60 should be expected now. Every team is defending hard."
The overtime was 5-0 for Turkey, an inexplicably low-scoring period for any basketball game.
Guard Kerem Tunçeri missed the final shot in a nerve-racking game that would have not made the game into the overtime. Center Semih Erden converts one of his two free throws with 28 seconds left in the game.
Turkey finished the first half 36 to 33 against Serbian team.
Turkish star Hedo TürkoÄŸlu did not make a serious impact on the game with four points and five assists. Hedo has an off night with a stunning 1-for-14 field goal in the game.
Center Semih Erden acknowledged that the next game against Slovenia will be a hard one as well.
"It will be a hard game, we know it," he said. "We take every game as it comes. We want to take the top spot of the group, so we want to beat Slovenia."
