Muğla faces a second day of heavy rain on Wednesday, 28 October, with the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) issuing an orange warning for nine districts including Fethiye, Dalaman, Marmaris and Datça, Anadolu Agency and local media reported on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the warning from MGM’s 4th Regional Directorate in İzmir, very heavy and locally severe rain is expected from the early hours of Wednesday in Datça, Bodrum, Ula, Marmaris, Köyceğiz, Ortaca, Dalaman, Fethiye and Seydikemer, with 51-100 kg/m² forecast. Inland districts Menteşe, Kavaklıdere, Yatağan and Milas are under a yellow warning, with 21-50 kg/m² expected. Local outlets Gündem Fethiye and Muğla Gazetesi said the warning runs from 00:00 on Wednesday until 11:00 on Thursday, 29 October.
Flood and landslide risk
Forecasters warned of flash floods, water ingress into buildings, lightning, local hail, landslides and the risk of waterspouts or tornadoes along the coast, as well as strong winds during downpours that could disrupt transport. At national level, MGM also issued yellow warnings for 18 provinces for Wednesday, including Antalya, İzmir, Aydın and Denizli.
Residents across Muğla have also received text alerts from AFAD, Türkiye’s disaster and emergency agency. According to Gündem Fethiye and Bodrum’da Bir Gün, the message said heavy rain in Muğla would continue today and tomorrow and urged people to take precautions against floods, landslides, lightning, storms, hail and coastal waterspouts.
A wet start to the holiday week
The new warning follows a stormy Monday and Tuesday on the coast. Muğla Metropolitan Municipality teams responded to 111 incidents in 24 hours, mostly flooding and blocked storm drains and sewers, Muğla Gazetesi reported on Tuesday morning. On Monday, flooding briefly closed the Koyunbaba-Gümüşlük road in Bodrum, and Tuesday’s own warning had forecast up to 100 kg/m² for Fethiye, Marmaris, Dalaman and Datça. In neighbouring Antalya, a tornado late on Monday killed four workers in Kepez.
By about 15:00 on Tuesday, no decision to close schools in Muğla on Wednesday had been announced. Wednesday is already a half day: under Türkiye’s national holidays law, the Republic Day holiday begins at 13:00 on 28 October, so schools and public offices close in the afternoon, and Thursday, 29 October, is a full public holiday.
Official updates
Anyone driving between Fethiye, Dalaman and Marmaris, or heading to Dalaman Airport, should allow extra time and avoid fords, underpasses and stream beds during downpours. Official updates come from MGM, the Muğla Governor’s Office and AFAD; the emergency number is 112. For more on life in the region, see our guide to living in Fethiye.
