Heavy rain flooded businesses and briefly closed a road on the Bodrum peninsula on Monday, 26 October, as the storm warning for Muğla province continued, according to reports from three Turkish news agencies.
Earlier in the day, bad weather had already led to the cancellation of Bodrum’s ferries to Datça and Kos and an afternoon school closure in Datça. The latest reports describe the first local flood damage in the district.
Koyunbaba–Gümüşlük road closed for a time
Showers fell on and off over Bodrum from the morning. In Koyunbaba, a neighbourhood on the western side of the peninsula near Gümüşlük, rainwater blocked drains and the road between Koyunbaba and Gümüşlük was closed to traffic for a time, the İhlas (İHA), Anadolu (AA) and Demirören (DHA) agencies reported between about 12:00 and 13:20.
Crews from Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, Bodrum Municipality and MUSKİ, the province’s water and sewerage utility, were sent to the area. They cleared the blocked drainage and pumped water off the road, which was then reopened. İHA said nearby homes came close to flooding but water was kept out.
Workplaces flooded, wall collapses
Water entered one business in Koyunbaba, according to İHA and AA, while DHA said several workplaces in the neighbourhood were flooded and some roads turned into large pools. A garden or retaining wall collapsed in the rain and damaged parked motorcycles; İHA reported two motorcycles trapped under the rubble. None of the reports mentioned injuries.
AA said municipal teams also cleaned stream beds in Konacık, a residential area just outside Bodrum town centre, to keep water flowing.
Warning continues overnight
The Meteorology Service’s orange warning for Muğla and Aydın runs until 03:00 on Tuesday, as we reported on Sunday. Officials quoted by DHA said the rain was expected to continue on and off through Monday and urged residents to take precautions. For Tuesday, Hürriyet reported that the latest forecast keeps yellow warnings for Antalya and İzmir, with no orange warning listed.
By about 14:00, reports reviewed by this site did not confirm road closures, flight disruption or school decisions for Tuesday in other Muğla districts.
What it means for residents
Anyone living in or visiting the western Bodrum peninsula, including Gümüşlük and Koyunbaba, should allow for flooded roads and possible short closures while the warning lasts. Do not drive through standing water, keep drains and gutters around villas clear, and check announcements from the Bodrum District Governorate, the Muğla Governor’s Office and AFAD, the national disaster agency.
