Ten Bulgarian tourists were injured early on Saturday when the tour bus taking them from Bulgaria to Istanbul crashed into the back of a truck on the Kapıkule-Edirne road in northwestern Türkiye, the Demirören News Agency (DHA) and İhlas News Agency (İHA) reported.
Crash near the border gate
According to DHA, the accident happened at around 01:30 near the village of Yenikadın, at roughly the sixth kilometre of the road between the Kapıkule border gate and the city of Edirne. İHA placed the scene near Kemalköy, on the road to the Kapıkule border gate with Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian-registered bus was carrying tourists from the Bulgarian city of Ruse (Rusçuk in Turkish) to Istanbul and struck a truck travelling ahead of it in the same direction, the reports said. İHA said the truck was loaded with pomegranates.
DHA reported that initial findings showed 51 Bulgarian tourists and two drivers were on board the bus.
Injured taken to two hospitals
Police, gendarmerie and medical teams were sent to the scene, and İHA said fire crews were also dispatched. Health teams found that 10 tourists had been injured, according to DHA.
The injured were taken by ambulance to Trakya University Faculty of Medicine Hospital and Sultan 1. Murat State Hospital in Edirne, where they were receiving treatment, DHA reported. Neither agency gave details of the severity of their injuries.
The cause of the crash had not been determined, and an investigation was under way, both agencies said.
