Muğla’s water and sewerage authority MUSKİ has started work on a new drinking water line for the TOKİ housing estate in Fethiye’s Karaçulha neighbourhood after residents faced frequent water cuts, the İhlas News Agency (İHA) and local outlet Fethiye TV reported on Saturday.
Contractor’s well and tank fell short
According to the reports, the borehole and drinking water reservoir built by the contractor for the estate were insufficient to meet residents’ needs, leading to repeated outages. Residents asked MUSKİ to build the drinking water infrastructure and take over the running of the system.
Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras then instructed the utility to resolve the problem as quickly as possible, the reports said.
1,200-metre line and booster station
MUSKİ crews are installing a booster (pumping) station next to the Karaçulha main reservoir and have begun laying a new 1,200-metre drinking water line. The investment is put at about 3 million lira.
Once the work is complete, the system is expected to meet the drinking water needs of 225 homes and end the frequent cuts. Neither report gave a completion date, saying only that the work is planned to be finished in a short time.
