The 4th Fethiye International Film Festival opened on Wednesday afternoon, 4 November, with a street parade through the centre of the Muğla resort town, local and regional outlets reported. The five-day festival runs until Sunday, 8 November, and all screenings and events are free, according to dokuz8HABER and Doğayı Dinle.

The parade set off from the Özgecan Monument and ended at Beşkaza Square, where the Fethiye Municipality band continued with music and dance, Fethiye TV, Aksiyon, Hürgün and the İhlas News Agency (İHA) reported. Balloons and festival posters were carried along the route.

The festival is organised by the Fethiye Photography and Cinema Arts Association (FEFSAD) in cooperation with Fethiye Municipality, according to Fethiye TV, dokuz8HABER and Gastrofill.

Opening night with Pelin Esmer

The opening evening includes a concert and the opening of a photography exhibition on Kadyanda, the ancient Lycian city in the hills above Fethiye, according to dokuz8HABER, Gastrofill and Doğayı Dinle. At 20:00 the festival screens director Pelin Esmer’s film "O Da Bir Şey Mi?", followed by a question-and-answer session with the director.

This year’s theme, "Kadyanda’dan Perdeye" (From Kadyanda to the Screen), links the festival’s visual identity to the ancient site, dokuz8HABER and Doğayı Dinle reported.

Programme and venues

The Özer Olgun Culture Centre is the main venue, with further events at smaller cultural spaces in the town, including the municipality’s Kültür Evi Kitap Müzesi (Book Museum), Oda Sahne and Kitaphane, according to dokuz8HABER and Doğayı Dinle. The programme combines feature films, documentaries, short films, panels, talks and workshops.

Among the highlights, actor and director Yılmaz Erdoğan will give a talk at the Özer Olgun Culture Centre on Saturday, 7 November, Gastrofill and Doğayı Dinle reported.

The festival follows a busy autumn of events in the district, after the Ölüdeniz Air Games in October. For readers new to the area, our guide to living in Fethiye covers the town’s neighbourhoods and daily life.
