Muğla began its Republic Day celebrations on Wednesday under heavy rain, and at least one district has moved Thursday’s official ceremony indoors. Wreath-laying ceremonies went ahead across the province on the eve of the 103rd anniversary of the Republic, local outlets Aksiyon and Gündem Fethiye reported. Marmaris moves Thursday’s ceremony indoors
In Marmaris the wreath ceremony at Atatürk Square was held under tents put up by the district governor’s office and the municipality because of the downpour, Aksiyon reported at 14:11. It said Thursday’s celebration programme had been moved to the Beldibi Multi-Purpose Hall because of the rainy weather. Gündem Fethiye also reported the move at 16:04. The ANKA news agency, covering the same ceremony, listed other events planned for Thursday: a "Republic table" meal on Kordon Caddesi, an evening torch parade and a concert at Atatürk Square. None of the reports gave start times for these events or said whether they would change.
Fethiye’s programme for Thursday
In Fethiye, light rain started during Wednesday’s wreath ceremony at the Atatürk Monument in Beşkaza Square, but it did not stop the programme, Aksiyon reported at 15:22. Children were handed yellow raincoats. Aksiyon and Bodrum Gündem published the same schedule for Thursday 29 October:
– 10:00: the district governor receives holiday greetings at his office – 10:30: ceremony at the indoor sports hall next to Fethiye City Stadium – 15:30: Republic Day naval parade at Fethiye harbour – 17:00: vehicle convoy from Çiftlik neighbourhood along the ring road to Salı Pazarı – 20:00: Republic march from the Özgecan Monument to Beşkaza Square
The Derya Uluğ concert, first planned for Wednesday, was moved to Friday 30 October at 20:00 in Beşkaza Square because of the expected rain, Fethiye TV reported earlier this week.
In the provincial centre, Menteşe, wreaths from the Governor’s Office, the garrison command and the metropolitan municipality were laid at the Atatürk Monument in heavy rain, with Governor İdris Akbıyık and Mayor Ahmet Aras attending. A vehicle convoy through the city followed, Aksiyon reported. Gündem Fethiye said ceremonies were also held in Milas, Dalaman and Seydikemer.

If you plan to watch Thursday’s events in Fethiye or Marmaris, check the district governor’s office and municipality social media accounts on the morning before you set out, because venues and times have already changed in some places.
