Türkiye’s Ministry of Trade has fined a company 57,240 lira for continuing to publish a misleading housing listing, twice the amount of the first fine it imposed, the ministry said on Tuesday.

The company had earlier been given an administrative fine of 28,620 lira as a warning but kept the advertising going, according to the ministry’s written statement, reported by the DHA news agency via TRT Haber and by Sabah.

The ministry did not name the firm, say where the property was located or describe what was misleading in the repeat listing.

Fines to double with each repeat

The ministry said that the same company will have to pay twice the previous penalty for every new violation. It said it would continue inspections and sanctions and show no leniency towards those who mislead consumers.

On Monday the ministry announced a 28,620 lira fine on an estate business over an online flat listing that showed a 2 million lira down payment as if it were the sale price, as we reported. Tuesday’s statements did not say whether the doubled fine concerns the same business.
