Türkiye’s General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in the Black Sea provinces of Ordu and Giresun for Saturday, 31 October, and forecast showers and thunderstorms across large parts of the country, according to its bulletin as reported by 12punto and Timeturk.
Update, 09:50: Heavy rain had already hit Ordu on Friday evening ahead of the warning. In Fatsa, a 62-year-old concrete mixer operator working in the Ilıca River was trapped by rising water and was rescued by Ordu Metropolitan Municipality firefighters, Anadolu Agency (AA) and İhlas News Agency (İHA) reported. The rain flooded some homes and workplaces in Fatsa, caused problems in the Perşembe and Altınordu districts and made traffic difficult on the Black Sea coastal road, the agencies said. AA reported that municipal teams were pumping water out of flooded areas. (Sources: AA via Son Dakika, İHA via Son Dakika.)
Update, 10:50: The MGM heavy-rain warning for Ordu and Giresun covered the period from 18:00 on Friday to 03:00 on Saturday and was not in force in the service’s Saturday morning update, Gazeteniz Olsun and Son Dakika reported. Showers and thunderstorms are still forecast on Saturday for the Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Sea regions and western Eastern Anatolia, with morning and night fog in Marmara and inland areas. In its weekly outlook, MGM expects rain to spread from 3 November and to affect most of the country on Wednesday 4 November, with temperatures near seasonal norms and 2-4C above normal in the north and east. In many provinces the rain is expected to intensify after midday.
