A fire broke out early on Saturday in a wedding hall on the top floor of a five-storey business centre in Istanbul’s Bayrampaşa district and was put out after about an hour, Anadolu Agency (AA) and İhlas News Agency (İHA) reported. No one was killed or injured, İHA said.
Flames spread across the top floor
The fire started at around 06:00 in the wedding hall of the building on Topkapı Maltepe Caddesi in the Orta neighbourhood, according to İHA. Both agencies said the flames quickly spread across the entire top floor, and İHA reported that the wind helped the fire grow.
Neighbours alerted the emergency services, and fire crews, police and medical teams were sent to the scene. Firefighters tackled the blaze from three points and brought it under control in about an hour, the agencies said. İHA reported that crews then checked every floor of the building for anyone who might have been trapped.
Cause under investigation
The building’s roof was damaged, but the agencies did not give an estimate of the cost. The cause of the fire had not been determined, and İHA said an investigation had been launched.
