Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is making a working visit to Türkiye on Saturday at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with the two leaders due to hold talks in Istanbul, Turkish media reported.
The visit was announced on Friday evening by Burhanettin Duran, the Turkish presidency’s Communications Director, in a post on social media, according to CNBC-e and soL Haber.
War and Black Sea on the agenda
According to Duran’s announcement, as reported by several outlets, the leaders will discuss ways to develop cooperation between Türkiye and Ukraine, as well as regional and international developments, above all the Russia-Ukraine war and the security situation in the Black Sea.
In his daily video message ahead of the trip, Zelenskyy said "important talks will take place in Türkiye", A Haber and the İLKHA news agency reported. In the same message he said Ukraine was preparing new decisions, was working to restore power after Russian strikes on its energy infrastructure, and expected to reach long-discussed formats in November.
The visit comes a day after Ankara hosted the summit of the Organization of Turkic States, where the Ankara Declaration was adopted and Türkiye took over the organisation’s chairmanship.
