Heavy showers and thunderstorms are forecast for Muğla, İzmir, Aydın and four other western provinces on Tuesday, 3 November, while Antalya is under a governorship warning for strong rain that runs until 03:00 on Tuesday, according to statements from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) carried by several news agencies and local outlets.

Aegean and Thrace on Tuesday

Anadolu Agency (AA) and the İlke news agency (İLKHA) reported that the MGM expects locally strong showers and thunderstorms from Tuesday morning around İzmir, Aydın, Muğla, Çanakkale and Edirne, as well as in Manisa and the western parts of Balıkesir. The service said the rainy weather would persist over a wide area.

The İhlas News Agency (İHA) separately reported that the MGM’s 4th Regional Directorate expects strong showers and thunderstorms across Muğla province on Tuesday, locally strong from the morning hours.

The risks listed by the MGM are flash floods, inundation, lightning, local hail, waterspouts along the coast, disruption to transport and strong winds during downpours.

Muğla has already had several days of heavy rain. An orange-level warning for the province ran from Sunday until 04:00 on Tuesday, as reported in our earlier Muğla warning story, and overnight rain flooded about 20 locations in Bodrum, as covered in our Bodrum flood report.

Antalya warning until 03:00

In Antalya, the provincial governorship issued a warning based on data from the MGM’s 4th Regional Directorate covering the period from 15:00 on Monday to 03:00 on Tuesday, local outlets Antalya Ekspres and Antalya Hakkında reported.

The rain was expected to begin in the western districts of Kaş, Demre, Finike, Kumluca and Kemer and then move east to Konyaaltı, Muratpaşa, Kepez, Döşemealtı, Aksu, Serik, Manavgat, Alanya, Gündoğmuş, Akseki and İbradı.

According to the governorship, rainfall was forecast at 21 to 50 kilograms per square metre, reaching 51 to 75 kilograms per square metre in some areas. The warning listed flash floods, inundation, lightning, hail, tornadoes and strong winds as risks.

Western Antalya was hit by flooding in late October, when homes and greenhouses were damaged in Demre, as reported in our Demre flood story.
