Istanbul’s reservoirs were close to 62% full on Saturday, 7 November, after heavy autumn rain, according to figures from İSKİ, the city’s water and sewerage authority. Average occupancy across the dams that supply the city stood at 61.93%, Habertürk and BirGün reported, up from just over 61.5% a day earlier.
Levels vary sharply between dams
Not all reservoirs have recovered equally. In the latest per-dam figures published by Habertürk and Cumhuriyet, Istrancalar was 98.04% full and Darlık 95.19%. Ömerli stood at 83.11%, Elmalı at 80.84% and Alibey at 79.68%.
Other reservoirs remain well below that. Terkos was at 50.45%, Sazlıdere at 40.75% and Büyükçekmece at 39.81%. Kazandere and Pabuçdere were the lowest, at 11.55% and 7.74%.
Heavy rain in recent days pushed levels higher, Cumhuriyet and BirGün reported. On Wednesday a downpour flooded streets in parts of the city. For more on the city, see our guide to living in Istanbul.
