The Antalya Governor’s Office has warned residents of heavy rain across the province on Tuesday, 27 October, saying the downpours are expected to begin in the early hours of the day and to be strongest in eastern parts of the province, local news site Güney Haberci reported on Monday evening.
The warning, based on a forecast from the Meteorology Service’s 4th Regional Directorate, is valid for the whole of Tuesday, from 00:00 to 23:59.
How much rain is expected
According to the forecast cited by the governor’s office, the city centre and the western coasts of Antalya province could receive 21 to 50 kilograms of rain per square metre, while eastern areas could see 51 to 75 kg/m². Turkish forecasters use kilograms per square metre for rainfall; one kilogram per square metre equals one millimetre of rain.
The governor’s office listed the main risks as flash floods, flooding, lightning, hail and strong winds during showers, and asked residents and relevant institutions to stay alert and take precautions. The statement as reported did not name individual districts.
Antalya is among the provinces under a yellow weather warning for Tuesday, alongside Muğla, İzmir, Denizli, Balıkesir, Bursa, Çanakkale, Kocaeli, Tekirdağ and Yalova, according to a round-up by Türkiye Gazetesi. Neighbouring Muğla faces the heaviest totals in the region: forecasters there have warned of up to 100 kg/m² in Fethiye, Marmaris, Dalaman and Datça, while Istanbul is also bracing for heavy rain in its northern districts.
Schools open unless a decision is announced
As of Monday evening, no school closure had been announced for Tuesday in Antalya, and none was reported for the districts of neighbouring Muğla. In Türkiye, decisions to suspend classes because of bad weather are taken by provincial governors or district governors (kaymakam) and are usually published on the governorate’s website and social media accounts, sometimes late in the evening or early in the morning. Parents should rely on those official channels.
For residents and visitors, a yellow warning signals weather that could disrupt daily life. Drivers should avoid low-lying underpasses and dry stream beds, which can fill rapidly in a downpour, and anyone planning walks on coastal or mountain trails may want to postpone.
