Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has postponed the city’s main Republic Day evening events by one day because of adverse weather, moving the lantern parade (fener alayı) and a concert by singer Semicenk from Thursday 29 October to Friday 30 October, local outlets Antalya Hakkında and Antalya Körfez reported.
The announcement was made by Acting Mayor Büşra Özdemir, who said the change was due to unfavourable weather conditions and invited residents to gather in the square on 30 October "with the same excitement". The events mark the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye.
New times on Friday 30 October
According to the municipality’s announcement as reported by both outlets:
– **19:00:** the lantern parade sets off from Konyaaltı Varyant, with participants carrying Turkish flags, and ends at Cumhuriyet Meydanı (Republic Square). – **20:30:** Semicenk performs for Antalya residents after the parade; Antalya Hakkında gave the venue as Cumhuriyet Meydanı.
The municipality did not say whether any other parts of the 29 October programme in the city, such as official morning ceremonies, were affected. Republic Day itself remains a public holiday on Thursday.
For residents and visitors
Anyone planning to watch the parade or the concert in central Antalya should go on Friday evening instead of Thursday and check the municipality’s channels for any further changes. Antalya’s municipal buses and the ANTRAY tram are still free on 29 October, as we reported this morning. More on the city is in our guide to living in Antalya.
