A planned yacht and boat pier for 280 vessels in Aksazlar Bay, in Fethiye’s Karagözler neighbourhood, has reached the final environmental impact assessment (EIA, or ÇED in Turkish) report stage, Muğla Gazetesi reported on Tuesday. The report, dated October 2026, puts the investment at 211.12 million lira.

The developer is Maredian Turizm Denizcilik Yatırımları İnşaat ve Ticaret Ltd.

What is planned

According to the report, the project covers 124,487 square metres: about 14,523 square metres of land, 5,744 square metres of pier and 104,220 square metres of sea. It would have four floating piers, a quay and a floating breakwater, along with fuel, waste-intake and service units. Planned services include electricity, fresh water, internet, collection of waste, wastewater and used engine oil, refuelling and firefighting.

No dredging or land reclamation is planned. The floating piers and breakwater would be fixed to the seabed with anchor blocks and chains. The report’s cost table covers the shore and quay platform, the floating structures, the anchoring systems and installation work.

On 28 August 2025, a preliminary permit agreement for 30 years of use was signed with the General Directorate of Nature Conservation, the report shows. Muğla Gazetesi said other environmental assessments and permit procedures still have to be completed before the project can go ahead. No tender or final approval was reported.

Earlier objections

The project is not new. In March 2025, CHP Muğla MP Gizem Özcan submitted a parliamentary question about the 280-boat pier to Environment Minister Murat Kurum, Karar reported at the time. Özcan said the site lies in a Special Environmental Protection Area and is home to loggerhead sea turtles. She argued the bay’s carrying capacity was already under strain. Karar also reported that residents, civic groups and Fethiye Municipality opposed the project in its form at the time. No government response was reported.
