A passenger bus collided with a truck and then crashed into a roadside house near the town of Hilal in Uludere district, in the southeastern province of Şırnak, on Thursday morning, Anadolu Agency (AA) and Demirören News Agency (DHA) reported. Fifteen people on the bus were taken to hospital, and DHA later reported that the bus driver had died despite treatment.
According to AA, the bus was travelling towards Hakkari province when it collided with a truck carrying beehives coming from the opposite direction. The bus skidded out of control after the impact and came to a stop after striking the house at the side of the road. Some of the bees in the hives on the truck died, AA said.
Injured taken to hospital
Emergency medical (112) teams, gendarmerie, fire brigade and AFAD, the disaster and emergency authority, were sent to the scene, the reports said. The injured were taken by ambulance to hospitals in the region. AA’s report, published at 09:52, said one of the 15 injured was in serious condition.
In an update to its report, DHA said the bus driver, who had been seriously injured, could not be saved. DHA’s headline put the toll at one dead and 14 injured. The reports we read did not give details on the condition of the truck driver or on whether any occupants of the house were hurt.
Investigation launched
An investigation has been opened into the cause of the crash, according to DHA. AA quoted a passenger as saying he had been asleep and woke up at the moment of impact.
