Winter tyres become compulsory for commercial vehicles carrying passengers or goods on intercity roads in Türkiye from 15 November, with the requirement running until 15 April 2027, Anadolu Agency (AA) and Sabah reported on Wednesday.
Businesses whose vehicles are required to use winter tyres but do not fit them will face administrative fines, both outlets said.
Interior Ministry circular to 81 provinces
The Interior Ministry is preparing a circular on enforcing the rule, which is to be sent to the governorships of all 81 provinces, AA and Sabah reported. Neither outlet said when the circular would be issued.
The requirement stems from regulations of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, AA reported. Milli Gazete, in a guide published on Tuesday, said the rule covers buses, minibuses, lorries, tankers and pickups on intercity routes, as well as cars used to carry passengers or cargo commercially.
Private cars not required
Private cars are not legally obliged to use winter tyres, although the authorities recommend them, AA, Sabah and Milli Gazete reported.
AA and Sabah said winter tyres are advised once air temperatures fall to 7 degrees Celsius or below.
