Maximum premiums for compulsory traffic insurance (zorunlu trafik sigortası), the third-party motor liability cover every vehicle in Türkiye must carry, have risen by 1% for November, according to the tariff published by the Insurance Information and Monitoring Centre (SBM), Karar and Finansopia reported on Wednesday.
Private cars in Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir
For private cars with internal combustion engines in Istanbul, the maximum premium is 59,678 lira at step 0, the highest-risk level, and 9,946 lira at step 8, the level for drivers with the longest claim-free record, both outlets said. At step 4, the standard level, the Istanbul ceiling is 19,893 lira.
In Ankara, the maximum premium for a private car ranges from 57,989 lira at step 0 to 9,665 lira at step 8. In İzmir, the range is 56,300 lira to 9,383 lira, the reports said.
Taxis and buses
For commercial taxis in Istanbul, the ceiling is 183,837 lira at step 0 and 30,640 lira at step 8, Karar and Memurlar.net reported. In Ankara the taxi range is 178,634 to 29,772 lira, and in İzmir 173,431 to 28,905 lira. For buses with 31 or more seats in Istanbul, the maximum premium reaches 451,644 lira at step 0 and 75,274 lira at step 8.
Set by the insurance regulator
The 1% rise was set in October by the insurance regulator SEDDK, which amended its traffic insurance premium circular, Sigorta Gazetesi and Sigorta Dünyası reported. Under the same decision, a further 2 percentage points apply to taxis, minibuses and buses. The increase for October had been 1.5%, both trade outlets said.
The insurance ceilings are one of several motoring costs changing this autumn, after an autogas price rise on Tuesday and the calculation of the 2027 revaluation rate that will set many fees and fines next year.
