Petrol prices at Turkish filling stations are expected to fall by 6.08 lira a litre from Friday, 6 November, Yeni Şafak, Paratic and Milli Gazete reported on Thursday, citing industry sources. The new prices would apply from midnight, Paratic and Milli Gazete said. The cut covers petrol only: the three outlets said no reduction had been set for diesel.

Milli Gazete and Notbir noted that the amount had not been officially announced by Thursday morning.

Expected prices in Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir

A litre of petrol currently costs 80.50 lira on Istanbul’s European side, 81.50 lira in Ankara and 81.70 lira in İzmir, according to Milli Gazete, Paratic and Notbir. On the Asian side of Istanbul the price is 80.30 lira, Milli Gazete and Notbir reported.

After a 6.08 lira cut, petrol would cost about 74.42 lira on Istanbul’s European side, 75.42 lira in Ankara and 75.62 lira in İzmir, Yeni Şafak, Paratic and Milli Gazete calculated. In eastern provinces, where pump prices are higher, it would be around 77.02 lira, Yeni Şafak and Milli Gazete said.

Diesel remains well above petrol, at 100.50 lira a litre on Istanbul’s European side, 101.60 lira in Ankara and 101.90 lira in İzmir, the same outlets reported.

The expected reduction follows a sharp fall in crude prices. Brent fell by more than 8 percent on Wednesday to around 94 dollars a barrel, Notbir and Bloomberg HT reported, and traded near 93 dollars on Thursday morning, according to Yeni Şafak and Paratic. Yeni Şafak, Notbir and Konhaber linked the slide to the US midterm election results and expectations of easing tensions in the Middle East.

Pump prices in Türkiye rose at the start of the month, when the special consumption tax (ÖTV) on petrol and diesel went up under a phased schedule set by presidential decisions. Fuel is one of the main running costs covered in our cost of living in Turkey guide.
