Strong northerly winds, reaching storm force in places, are forecast across parts of Türkiye’s Mediterranean region on Sunday, 8 November, according to a warning from the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) reported by Anadolu Agency (AA), the Hibya news agency and İlkhaber.
Areas affected
All three reports list the same areas: the high ground of the Taurus Mountains around Antalya, Burdur, Isparta, Kahramanmaraş and Osmaniye; Adana and its surroundings; the western part of Mersin; and the coastal areas of Hatay.
The Antalya entry refers to the province’s mountain areas rather than its coast. None of the reports names Antalya city, Alanya or the other resort towns.
Timing and wind speeds
The winds are expected to pick up from early on Sunday. Hibya and İlkhaber both put speeds at 50 to 70 kilometres per hour, and AA said the winds would be strong in general and stormy in places, blowing from the north.
Possible disruption
According to all three reports, the meteorology service warned of possible disruption to transport, damage to roofs, and trees and poles being brought down, and urged residents and the relevant authorities to take precautions.
A separate storm warning is in force for the South Aegean this weekend. Our South Aegean storm report has the details. For planned power cuts in Antalya province on Sunday, see our 8 November list. For more on life in the province, see our guide to living in Antalya.
