Otokar, the Turkish manufacturer of commercial and military vehicles, announced on Oct. 1 that it has signed an export contract worth $1.47 billion, one of the largest single deals the company has disclosed.
According to the company's filing with the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), the agreement covers wheeled armored vehicles together with integrated logistics support services. Otokar did not reveal the name of the buyer or the country where the vehicles will be deployed.
Conditions and timeline
The contract does not take effect immediately. Otokar said it will enter into force only once the required official approvals are obtained, letter-of-guarantee procedures are completed and an advance payment is received from the customer.
To secure its obligations under the deal, including the advance payment, the company will issue letters of guarantee totaling $441.6 million. The agreement has a duration of seven years. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027 and will be completed in batches spread over three years.
No breakdown of the vehicle types or quantities was included in the disclosure. Otokar's product range spans tracked and wheeled armored platforms, among them the Tulpar modular tracked vehicle, but the company did not specify which models are covered by the new order.
Part of a busy season for defense exporters
The announcement came during a particularly active period for the Turkish defense industry. In the same weeks, electronics group Aselsan disclosed a string of domestic and export contracts, while Turkish firms signed several agreements with Azerbaijan at a defense exhibition in Baku, including a logistics support contract involving Otokar.
For Otokar, a multiyear foreign order of this scale provides long-term visibility over production. The company has not said when it expects the contract's preconditions to be fulfilled, and further details may follow in later KAP filings as the deal progresses.
