Construction of the motorway between Antalya and Alanya on Türkiye’s Mediterranean coast has reached 35% physical progress, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said on Sunday, according to Habertürk, Takvim and İhlas News Agency (İHA).

Once the road is finished, the trip on this stretch of the coast will take 36 minutes instead of the current two and a half hours, a saving of 114 minutes, the minister said.

Route and structures

The project runs from the Serik Junction to the Alanya West Junction, north of Konaklı, and is 122 kilometres long in total: 84 km of main carriageway and 38 km of connection roads, according to the figures Uraloğlu gave. The main carriageway will have three lanes in each direction, while the connection roads will have four lanes in total across both directions.

The motorway will have seven junctions: Serik, Taşağıl, Manavgat, Manavgat East (Manavgat Doğu), Alarahan, Konaklı and Alanya West (Alanya Batı).

Tunnels and viaducts

The route includes five tunnels with a combined length of 4,604 metres and 16 viaducts totalling 5,966 metres, the minister said. Excavation support has been completed in three of the tunnels, where work has moved on to the final concrete lining, while excavation support continues in the other two. Work is under way on 15 of the 16 viaducts.

Crews are also building 17 underpasses, 10 overpasses, seven bridges and 48 culverts along the route, according to the reports.

Projected savings

Uraloğlu said the motorway is expected to save about 23.9 billion lira a year once completed, made up of roughly 23 billion lira in time savings and 900 million lira in fuel savings. Annual carbon emissions are projected to fall by 47,000 tonnes.

The minister did not give a target completion date or a total construction cost in the statements reported on Sunday. For background on the region, see our guide to living in Antalya.
