Borsa Istanbul’s main BIST 100 index closed Friday, 6 November, at 11,482.60 points, ending the week 6.72% higher, according to Anadolu Agency (AA) and the financial news site Endeks24. It was the index’s first weekly gain after seven straight weeks of losses.
The BIST 100 tracks the 100 largest and most traded companies listed on Borsa Istanbul and is the main benchmark for Turkish shares.
Friday’s session
On Friday alone the index rose 149.33 points, or 1.32%, AA and Endeks24 reported, and Bloomberg HT gave the same close. The day started weakly: the index opened 0.84% lower before recovering through the session.
The US dollar was trading at about 50.16 lira on Friday evening, according to AA and Bloomberg HT.
End of a seven-week slide
The BIST 100 had been under selling pressure for seven weeks in a row, as both Endeks24 and the market news site Borsanın Gündemi reported.
Our earlier report covered a 4.44% weekly fall during that run.
