Drivers in Istanbul’s Bakırköy district face two sets of road closures from Sunday, 8 November, as the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) strengthens the İncirli Bridge on the D-100 highway and replaces an ageing bridge that carries the Marmaray line over Adnan Kahveci Boulevard, Anadolu Agency (AA) and ANKA reported.
D-100 side road closed for 15 days
The side road of the İncirli Bridge in the direction of Topkapı will be closed to all traffic from 23:00 on Sunday, 8 November, for 15 days while earthquake-strengthening work is carried out, AA and ANKA reported. During that period, side-road traffic will be diverted onto the main D-100 carriageway, according to AA, ANKA and Toplumsal Haber.
The side road is due to reopen as a single lane on Monday, 23 November, and the work is planned to be completed on Wednesday, 23 December, when the road will return to full capacity, AA and Takvim reported.
Marmaray bridge to be rebuilt over 180 days
The existing bridge over the Marmaray commuter rail line in Bakırköy has reached the end of its structural life and poses a safety risk, so it will be demolished and replaced with a new three-span bridge 60 metres long and 30 metres wide, AA and Takvim reported. The work is planned to take 180 days, according to the same outlets.
From 00:00 on Sunday, 8 November, Adnan Kahveci Boulevard, Beyaz Lale Street and Dumlupınar Street will be closed to vehicles in both directions, AA, ANKA and Toplumsal Haber reported. The rerouting follows a decision by the city’s Transport and Traffic Commission, according to AA and Takvim.
Vehicles will instead use Dr. Remzi Kazancıgil Avenue, Rauf Orbay Avenue and Kilitbahir Street, AA and ANKA reported. A temporary pedestrian ramp will be built next to the bridge so that people on foot can still cross, the same agencies said, and the traffic arrangements will remain in place for the whole construction period, according to AA and Takvim.
